Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to buy from the Vermont Workers' Center on-line?

Yes. We use PayPal as our secure on-line credit card processor which works in conjunction with SquirrelCart, our PHP Shopping Cart software.

SquirrelCart.com: Shopping Cart Software

Our shopping cart software program, SquirrelCart, stores your order in its database and emails it to us. It also emails you a confirmation email. We have opted to let PayPal and their Secure Socket Layer (SSL – an encryption program) handle your credit card transaction. This means that our shopping cart software, SquirrelCart, only receives the items you ordered and your address and shipping information. The credit card account information you enter never leaves PayPal. Confirmation of your successful transaction is passed to SquirrelCart and your order is filled.

What is the Squirrel in Squirrelcart?

The "squirrel" in SquirrelCart is a word that we use to mean SQL – Structured Query Language. The "cart" in SquirrelCart means it's a shopping cart (but I bet you guessed that part!). We have this assurance of the folks at Squirrelcart.com: No squirrels were harmed in the making of this software.

I don’t have a credit card or I’m uncomfortable using my credit card online. How else can I purchase your work?

You can still use our shopping cart, but choose to pay by check. You'll print our order form, fill in your billing and shipping addresses, the purchase price, and the shipping cost and mail us a check for that amount. We receive a few orders like this each month and are happy to turn them around quickly.

We have also been known to take a credit card, expiration date, a phone number and your billing and shipping addresses over the phone, but we ask that you understand that ninety-nine percent of our orders come through this website and consequently operators are not standing by.

When will my order arrive?

We make every effort to pack and ship your order on the next business day. Once in awhile we beat that goal. We use First Class mail to the Continental USA and Air Mail overseas, to Canada and Mexico.

What happens if my order is damaged in shipping or defective?

We ship our products First-Class, rather than Media Mail. This costs a little more, but First Class packages are handled more gently and expeditiously than Media Mail packages. Should a CD arrive damaged, contact us immediately and we will re-send your order at our expense.

We use DiscMakers, a highly reputable manufacturer, for our recording projects. We pay a little more for them, but we expect and get more from them in terms of dependability and service. Should a CD be defective, contact us and we will replace it.
